Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to have completed a suicide prevention course prior to completing this training?

No, it is not a requirement, however, it is recommended.

You will learn how to utilise, maintain and store the Hoffman Knife/Ligature cutter. You will learn how to operate the Hoffman Knife in a safe and effective manner. All learners will complete a practical demonstration on the use of the knife/cutter.

The most dangerous part of the body to tie a ligature is at the neck as it obstructs or blocks the persons airway, however, a person may also tie a ligature around a limb such as a leg or arm or an extremity like a finger or toe. It is always best to risk assess whether you can physically remove a ligature from these areas prior to using a Ligature cutter, this limits the chance of introducing what could be used by the person as a potential weapon.
